In 1984 after the closure of the old of Thompsons bakery in Cork, three former employees Denis Hurley, Tom Smith senior, and Tom Smith junior, came together and decided to start their own confectionery business.
They decided to call the new bakery Old Mill Confectionery because of its location near the Blackpool stream on Cork northside.
Together these three men set about making cakes and crusty bread to the highest craft bakery standards.
over the next number or years, long hours and hard work ensured that Old Mill confectionery was to become the leading manufactures of high quality confectionery in Ireland.
It a credit to the vision of Tom Smith Senior, Denis Hurley, and my late father Jim Smith, all now retired, that the bakery has gone from strength to strength.
Old Mill Confectionery now operates out of a new state of the art bakery in Cork.
Today directors Tom and Harry Smith continue the family tradition of making only the finest confectionery and breads to the very high standards set by their fathers.
